View Full Version : Wreck at Chittagong

Can anybody remember the wreck, I beleive of a Clan Line ship, that was stranded miles from the sea at Chittagong? I can remember seeing it there in the mid/late '70s. I understood that it was driven up there by a tidal wave and became hopelessly stranded.

Hi Chouan, I remember seeing a Clan Line ship well ashore when I visited Chittagong for the first time in 1963. I believe that the wreck was the result of a tidal wave in either late '62 or early '63 but don't recall any details after all this time. I'm quite sure there will be others on this site who will be able to provide more information.
All the best,

I think it is the Clan Alpine, if you follow the two link below it has a good account of the circumstances;
Hope I am right!

Thanks. There was no particular reason for me to want to find out now, but I have always been intrigued by the sight of a ship so far ashore! I saw it in 1975, I think, the first time, and I've wondered ever since!

Yup. That's the one. I'm not going mad in my dotage then!
