I think it's meant to say the green "Post Reply" button or type a "Quick Reply" into this thread.
The Guides are currently being sorted out with better instructions etc., and I'm sure this little problem will be fixed soon.

Hi Peter!
I worked with you on the Isle Of Wight. A good few years ago now.
I didn't know about your career change.
Hope you are well.

Kenneth,

Not only will I spare a thought for her and the many that lost their lives on her, I will regret that she is not here today, as a example of what I think was one of the most beautiful ships afloat.

Chris.

Having just joined am 'trawling through' to see any items that may 'ring bells' for me. Just read yours, about the Pamir and September 1957. I was in 'The Bay' on the ss Cambray, a WW2 Liberty Ship, one of a few owned by Elder Dempster Lines of Liverpool, south bound for West Africa. Being a green as grass, 'first tripper', I was not aware of the immense significance of being told that we had received a distress call, from the Pamir but as we were hove to and unable to manoeuvre, we could do nothing about it!

After the storm our skipper whose name, believe it or not, was Nelson Taylor, asked me if I'd been sea sick. No, I replied. Then you never will be, he said, as long as you are at sea. He was right, I never was!

Hi Guys...New to this..Firstly I am not Jack No2 I am his daughter and have joined this site as dad does not have a lap top and I want to try and find anything I can about this ship. His father a Charles Wiley was on this ship when it went down and dad was just a babe in arms and I wondered if here was anyone who could help me at all? It is is birthday next week and I would love to have come up with anything to do with he ship, Captain, Crew etc. Dad had a hard childhood as his mother was left with 4 children Dad being the new babe in arms. So he never knew his father at all. Could anyone advise me as to where I begin Many Thanks(Thumb)

Hello Jacks daughter I misunderstood I thought you wanted information about the pamir sorry.

There is some information and a picture of a Lady Lavinia a trawler here http://hulltrawler.net/Sidewinder/Vessel%20-%20Lady/LADY%20LAVINIA%20H160.htm your Grandad was the Bosun of her and his name appears on the list of crew lost at the bottom of the list

You may also like to visit here http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1134631 where his name is mentioned at post number 4

I hope this helps you

What a co-incidence! I joined this forum yesterday because I am trying to find out more about items in my father's collection of "many things nautical" which, sadly, I have to dispose of. One of these items happens to be a model of "Pamir" - entirely hand made in silver by Mr Lewis Jason, of Cape Town, South Africa. It is 16.5cms long and 11.5cms high. I hope you enjoy the attached photo. Indeed, a very beautiful ship!!

I have attached a few more views. I also have a letter from the maker of the model & a little info about the ship which may be of interest to some readers but space does not allow for those with this post.

She was in London, around then, and open to the public. I think I must have been in the Sea Scouts. My Word! There are some Oldies on this site! I shall be 80 in April. Went to sea in 1948 so you would be abut 4 years more than me.

Good to read about a life under sail but, actually, live it! Not many of you guys around now.

The years do have a habit of sliding over the horizon, even quicker, as one's voyage through life nears its final port. The C/O, from my September '57, first and Pamir related voyage, are still in touch with he, now nearing, bearing 090 True, still under full steam ahead. Happy and good sailing weather to you, my friend, on your long to be continued voyage.
