Is anyone else experiencing difficuly with Simulator 2008. My Laptop is well up to date, yet it freezes on some of the programmes,or will run very slowly on others.
I am not using a mouse yet,only keys.Does this make a difference?

its a very demanding programme most laptops no matter how new would not have a suitable graphics card to run this programme smoothly, the game also requires 1gb of memory I have not really played it much yet but as far as I know you can turn off some of the detail which might help. I wouldnt have thought that usig the keys would make any difference.
I have put the system requirements below
Windows 2000, XP or Vista.
Pentium 4 2.4GHz or AMD equivalent.
1GB (Windows 2000/XP) or 2GB (Vista).
GeForce 5900 or ATI 9600 Pro / X600 (128MB

I found the previous version to be slow too when playing. I don't think I managed to get the frame rate up to more than 10 per second despite having more than the minimum requirements.

Thank you for your input chaps,I can,t find any way to reduce the programme, neither is the tutorial showing which is supposed to be listed.
I shall persvere for a time

A graphics card of at least 256 mb is recomended, 520 mb is ideal. Its not a game for a laptop with built in memory. Try it on someones gaming Computer if you haven't got one. You won't be disappointed. It's the NUTZ..

I now have ship sim installed. However for some strange reason I can not download the bug fix patches. (one tells me it will take several hours to download) having endured the long waits i find i cant open the downloads. and these are from the ship-sim site too. Any ideas lads.

Just had a look at the ShipSim site, it seems there are two different patches.
Update 1.0 to 1.3
Update 1.1 to 1.3
I've had this before on FlightSim, with me it was down to which version you already have, if you have 1.0, the 1.1 to 1.3 patch may not install. At least that's how it went for me.
Then again I only have ShipSim 2006, I don't know if this helps much BillyBoy.
I'm not always good at getting these things going too well myself.

What patches are you trying to dload Billy? 2008 or 2006? Everyone has had the same prob for ages now & they keep promising to fix it. I think I still have ALL the patches etc on my laptop so tell me what you need & I will give you a direct link to my Comp to dload them.

i Have ship sim 2008. I need the bug fixing patch but seem to be unable to download it. if it does download it wont open. something about not being a win32 application or something like that.

The bug fix patches are enclosed in the upgrade patches.
First of all you need to know which version you are running.
In the Main Menu it will tell you at the bottom left of screen. If it is version 1.0, you need patch 1.0 to1.3. If it is version 1.1, you need 1.1 to 1.3.
I tried to update to 1.3, but play became erratic & sometimes asked me to insert a new serial# or re-install - which only got me back to path 1.0 & I had to upgrade to 1.1 again. I just left it at 1.1 !
The problem is Billy, they are all 1.25-1.30 gigs & I think you said before that you only have a dial up connection which would make downloading very slow anyway.

I installed Ship Sim 2008. Also installed DirectX with it. But when I run Ship Sim on this laptop, it just freezes the computer. This is very disappointing to say the least.
Is there any patch that I need to download and install?
5th July 2008, 12:08
Shipsim 2008 is now up to version 1.4.2, patches can be downloaded from here;- http://www.shipsim.com/downloads/patches.php?PHPSESSID=ddb01f5d4ef7a143e57174a256d5 82f9
Not sure if that will fix your problem, but it's worth a try. It could be a DirectX problem, have you tried running a dxdiag?

Beat this then. my latest upgrade of AVG when scanned showed a Worm in shipsim. I deleted ship sim and cleared the worm. when i try to reload ship sim 2008 it telss me either "i do not have permission" or "virus worm in autorun" or virus in instal.exe.
One ship sim disc launched at high speed across the room. Computer problems here are just unbelievable. I have had computer repair men run away from our place and change their jobs

Sorry to hear that Billy. It sounds a bit odd, I've got the latest AVG and Shipsim and I've not had any problems. I have heard of instances where AVG (or other virus checkers for that matter) can generate false alarms due to the way the scans are run. If you're sure that software is virus free (which should certainly be the case with Shipsim) you can set the Virus checker to not scan that particular file. It might be worth your while turning off AVG while you re-install Shipsim. I know some software does ask that virus scanners be disabled during installs because of the risk of these false alarms. Have a look on Google for stuff on "False positives" with virus checkers. There's quite a lot of info there.

Up and running again Jerff. My mate was here and he canceled the anti virus while we reloaded it with no problems. AVG is now reset again. Thanks mate
