On the Maihar we had Jack Evans as 2nd Engineer on voyage 94. He had previously been with Harrisons on their ship Tribesman. On one trip they blew out the bottom of the air pump on her triple expansion engine, and to repair it they did a "metalok" repair, that is where they drilled a series of interlocking holes and tapped them before inserting lengths of screwed rod, thus securing the broken part to the bottom casing. The repair was successful, and all credit to the engineers.
As after a few beers he was wont to often regale us with the tale, thus to us for the rest of the trip he was "chain rivet Jack"
