Wightlink face industrial action

12th February 2008, 19:12
RMT union members have voted to begin industrial action on Monday on Wightlink's Portsmouth to Fishbourne route. Workers are refusing to start work before 0530.

The union said its members agreed to earlier starts last year but when it came to negotiating permanent arrangements the company just tried to impose the new roster. More than half the members voted for action.

RMT general secretary said when it came to negotiating a permanent arrangement, the company said there was nothing to talk about.

Wightlink said they were surprised by the decision, having last year reached what they thought was a satifactory agreement with the unions over sailing times.

No doubt Moaf has more on this?.
