UK Captain Remembered In Portland Traffic Accident

It occurred nearly 10 years ago, captain Richard Head (of the Christoffer Oldendorff) and his wife were killed while walking from the Swan Island Drydock in Portland. White crosses were left as a remembrance of the victims and a reminder of the unsafe conditions for pedestrians on the street.

I remember this incident very well for some reason; it is also interesting to see that there is an added connection to the Merchant Navy, for the memorials are very likely have been placed by, and now cared for, by the workers at Cascade Steel which is owned by Schnitzer Steel.
Leonard Schnitzer was chairman until his death in 2003 and he (assisted by Ken Lewis) created Lasco, the Portland based Owners of a fleet of ships like Pac Princess and China Pride.
