Dorcasia and Asturias

Asturias

Hi - I joined this site to notify people who might be interested that I have set up a website about the SS Asturias and its service as a 'migrant ship' from the UK to Australia in the 1940s and 50s - www.ssasturias.net - however I have been fascinated reading about other ships. I remembered recently that a mate of my father's - Tony Bishop from Strood, England - was (I think) First Mate on the SS Dorcasia, a Shell Tanker that called into Melbourne when I was a child. Our family went to visit him on the ship and had a tour of it. My two vivid memories are being inside the funnel (!) and seeing the rec room with the 'world's largest jigsaw'. The other memory is the 'duty free' goodies we went away with - Customs being non-existent in those carefree days! Someone might remember Tony, who sadly passed away some years ago. Cheers, Vicki, Melbourne Aus.

Welcome aboard from northern England, Vicki.
Looks an interesting site and I'm glad you find our ship fascinating.
Plenty to discover and possible some crew who sailed on your Asturias.
Enjoy the voyage.

Vicki, from Michigan, a warm welcome to our site.
You should find much to interest you on Ships Nostalgia and our members, I'm sure, will be finding their way to your new Asturius pages.
