Gooday shipmates,
Started on the Nestor/Neleus class in the sixties ended on the LNG steamers recently.
Be interested to catch up with any engineers who sailed on the Blue Funnel Scotts-Still engines Double acting engines - Diesel on top -steam underneath. From all accounts the engineroom staff sweated blood to keep these ships on the move. I did hear the story that during WWII as one of these jobs had been torpedoed and as it was slipping below the waves the engineers stood up in the lifeboat and cheered.Just wondering how true these yarns were.
