Hi to everyone,

I have recently joined this wonderful site, and thought it time I said hello.
My love of all things maritime started in 1959 when my parents decided we were emigrating to Oz. We travelled out on the Orion and returned in 1961 on Canberra. Not settled, we returned to Oz in 1964 -again on Canberra, and finally ended up in the UK again in 1965 (courtesy of Orsova).

I live in view of the Thames Estuary, so am lucky to see ships passing every day.

Regards
Gary

Hi Gary
just thought I would say hello.
I was brought up in Leigh and now live Shoebury. I served with Elder Dempster line mid 60s and Royal Naval Reserve for Nearly 20 years - mostly based at HMS Essex in Shoebury. Sailed in Canberra 1981 as Naval Liaison Officer.
I get down to old Leigh quite often for a pint in the Billett - always something of interest down there.
regards
Kings

Hi Kings,

Nice to hear from you as a near neighbour!
The Billet is definitely the best pub in Leigh, and, as you say it is a very interesting area. My lad used to attend Sea-Scouts on Bell Wharf, so I managed to get out on to the water with him a few times.

May even bump into you one day.

regards
Gary
