As a person who served as 2nd Elect.Engr. on Gothic for the abovementioned Tour, I feel this ship should be entered in in our historic chapter. It was the first Merchant Navy Ship to serve as the Royal Yacht, ( from November 1953 to May 1954). Should you wish I can forward various arrival & departure photos of the Gothic during the tour.
Regards, Terence Williams. R538301.

Hi Terence,
I'm not too familiar with the history of the Royal Yachts, but I believe the P&O's 'Medina' was commissioned as such in 1911.
She even had a third mast, taken from another P&O liner then abuilding at Caird, stepped for the occasion

Whilst in no way wishing to belittle Gothic's distinguished service, I would point out that Orient Line's "Ophir" was also chartered as a Royal Yacht for the 1901 Australian tour of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall (later George V and Queen Mary).
