Does anybody remember a chief engineer nicknamed 'kickstart?' If I remember rightly, he had a motorbike in his day room and spent the trip modifying it.
He was a scouser, I seem to remember that.....

I remember my late father telling me of a C/E in Stricks who used to join on a Vincent and spend the trip taking it apart and putting it back together again. A curiously similar story if it isn't the same bloke.

No, but I did sail with "Motorbike" (Ron) Griffiths, ChStwd in BF. A legendary and great character. An excellent feeder too.
There was another guy I knew, although much before my time in BF, who brought a racing motorbike from Japan, piece by piece, each trip. His name was Steve and he was an Ulsterman if my memory serves. Last time that I saw him, he was (in workshop time!) creating extra long travel forks intending to enter the Sand Races on Leasowe foreshore.
