I don't think this is the right Hornet backsplice but the following site has a mention of an American clipper named hornet about the same vintage you were looking for.

If its the same Hornet: 1155 Tons, (sorry no other details).

Record of her leaving Liverpool in 1850 for Prince Edward Island;
leaving Plymouth in 1854 for Port Philip;
leaving Plymouth on 10/11/1858, arriving at Botany Bay on 03/03/1859;
leaving London in1859, arriving at Sydney on 03/03/1860; crew list at http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/1859/03/006hor.htm (http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/1859/03/006hor.htm)
leaving Plymouth in 1864, arriving at Sydney on 26/01/1865;
leaving India in 1866, arriving at Trinidad on 30/03/1867.

The 113 day voyage, Plymouth to Botany Bay, would suggest she is not the American clipper (caught fire & sunk 1866)

Ill keep my eyes open for any more info.
