Hello Alan, I will post a photo of the Manxman as she is now, she is lying on the river Wear in a very sorry state but plans are afoot to bring back some of her pride and hopefully this might not take too long.

Steve.

Hi:

Just viewed a report of her on New North West. Showed her rotting away in Sunderland - what a disgrace to allow 'an old lady' to get in this state. The guy interviewed said she was looking worse on each visit and unless they got her home this year next year may be to late.

Regards: Peter (marlinspike)

She has already been on the bottom once whilst in Sunderland, thankfully she remained upright and was refloated thanks to the hard work of the people who have an interest in her, Jeff Egan has kindly posted a couple of photo's of her when in distress.

As a new member I've just found these old postings relating to Manxman. As I am chairman of the charity working to raise funds to restore her, I'll post an update when I get the chance.
Meanwhile any with a Steam Packet/ Mersey connection may be interested in a fine print of a painting which the renowned Ted Walker has gifted to us for fund raising. Details on the web site www.ssmanxman.co.uk

ps I hope this isn't blatant comercialism, because it is in a good cause!!

Hi Bill, I worked on Manxman as a shipwright while she was in Hull, it was crap how she was carved up to make a nightclub. I wish you the best of luck and hope you succeed. regards Pete.

Pete. I'm sorry to say that our project will not be happening. There are other threads to bring you up to date but basically when Peel Holdings took over the Mersey Docks Company our provisional offer of a berth in Birkenhead was withdrawn. With no berth the local authorities could offer no support, nor could Heritage Lottery etc. So the charity is now being wound up.
More information with her history, photos, drawings, reports etc is on a free Yahoo Group called ssmanxman. If you can't find it please send me a pm and I'll get an invitation to you
Regards
Bill

I remember carrying out work on the manxman (contractor) when she was in the dry dock in Hull . It opened as a bar then tried for a nightclub licence but was refused. Spent some good weekends on her drinking, it was a lovely ferry with some very beautiful features ,the main bar had wood panelled walls , very impressive . Shame how it all turned out tho . But great memories .
