For those with a deep interest in navigation, I have just finished reading an excellent book. "The Illustrated Longitude" by Dava Sobel and William J.H.Andrewes. Very well illustrated and a fascinating insight into early navigation and it's progress to the present day.

I should correct that "present day" bit. It takes us up to the time of the modern sextant and not into the world of electronic gizmos.
