I am trying to help a friend find a photograph of the Sapphire (built 1935) which sank after a collision off St David's Head in April 1940. His father, though rescued, never recovered and died shortly after the incident. My searches so far have only given the briefest of details and I would be grateful to anyone who can give more information. I know she was owned by Robertsons of Glasgow (Gem Line) and there are photos of more recent 'Sapphires' on this site. Thanks in advance to anyone who can contribute information.

Hi Ken
I think that Sapphire is the 1949 build, renamed Mayfair Sapphire in 1958. There's a photo in the gallery of her for comparison.

Thanks for the info Ian. I couldn't be sure as no info is added to photos in Photoship. Ken.

Aye I know Ken, it can be a bugger at times. I think the 1935 Sapphire might prove to be elusive, hope I am wrong and someone pops up with one. But keep digging.

Thanks to everyone for trying - like you, I can only find the post-war pics.
Kind regards
