Northern Star aground Papeete

While talking ships in general today with a workmate, he mentioned to me that he travelled to Britain from Australia on Northern Star, via the Panama Canal.
In either Dec67 or Jan68, Northern Star ran aground and was stranded on a reef for about a week at Papeete in Tahiti. He seems to remember spending NYE in Papeete at the time.
We are wondering does any other member happen to have any knowledge of what happened to cause this mishap?

In December 1967 she grounded off Tahiti in a storm but was freed. That was from this web site:-
