B.C.'s bays at risk of becoming boat junkyards

The torching of an abandoned tug boat in Sooke Harbour is symptomatic of a much bigger problem -- bays and inlets up and down the coast are becoming junkyards for old boats.

The 25 abandoned boats in the Sooke Harbour area are not an isolated case. Innumerable coves and harbours are cluttered with derelict boats.

Derelicts have become a significant problem in places like Mayne Island, Ladysmith, Thetis Island and Gabriola Island. Prince Rupert Harbour is filled with abandoned boats. Closer to home, Tod Inlet has almost 20 derelicts.
