Hi there, have just joined SN. Served on SS Cerinthus which was on a long-term "demise-charter" to Shell in early 1960, - can anybody out there remember this ship, it was one of two tankers owned by the Hadley Shipping Co, possibly a subsiduary of Houlder Brothers of 53.Leadenhall St., London to whom l was indentured. We spent the 12 months away in the western hemisphere, loading crude in Maracaibo Lake in Venezuela for refining in Curacao(had 2 full months of these "lake runs"), with further trips carrying refined products from Curacao to ports on west and east sides of North & South America - remember arriving in Talcahuano,Chile in mid-1960, very soon after a devastating earthquake and tidal wave had wrought havoc to the area!

G'day out there.

Served as an Apprentice with Anglo-Saxon 1952- 1956 by which time it was Shell Tankers. Velletia, Naninia, Hyalina, Tenagodus, Nuculana and finally Rosa out in Trinidad, secunded to Trinidad Asphalt Co. As one reads in other threads times where quite exciting then and quite pleasant, most of the time, with just the odd exception. But that was a long time ago.
