I saw a response on the site a day or so ago on how to post pictures.
As I didn't have time to study it I came back today but damned if I can find it.
I have received an email with a picture I would like to post but being a dummy don't know how to. Need your help please.

Go to Gallery which is here - http://www.shipsnostalgia.com/gallery/

Click on the Blue Box saying Upload Photo, which is here - http://www.shipsnostalgia.com/gallery/uploadphoto.php

Fill in the boxes and away you go.

NB. Please do take note of this warning at the end whereby you confirm:
•You took all the photos you are uploading
•You have permission to post all photos from the original photographer, and will reference the source in the boxes for each photo on the next page.

Dave, one of the quickest ways is to e-mail the picture to yourself and use the reduced version that arrives.

I feel I must remind you that pictures received in emails tend to get deleted.
The only exceptions are those sent by a friend that have something to do with your time at sea.
Modern email attachments with no provenance may well have copyright problems.

One tells you what you can upload and the other gives pointers on how to do it.

Could someone please advise me how to change a TIF picture/photo into a jpeg format, or any other format that can be uploaded on SN-Galleries ?

Many Thanks,
Jim.

PS:I have just had a brain-wave, what if I copied the photo to a print and then scanned it anew ? The problem is the photo is a very grainy one (taken with a Brownie I suspect) and copying it again would only degrade it further. ? ? ?

Download the free program 'Picasa' (you can find it on Google) and you can do all sorts of tricks with photos.

For resizing I use the free program 'Irfanview"
http://www.irfanview.com/ It does alot of other good stuff also.

eldersuk & xchopsr,
Thank you both for your advice, I have managed to re-size the photo OK but it is still in the TIF format which the SN Galleries will not accept, the acceptable ones being jpg, jpeg, png, gif, mpeg, mpg, avi, asf, wmv, & mov: most of which I haven't a clue about.

Again Many Thanks,
Jim

Just open the file (photo) and then save it but type .jpg at the end of the name that you have given it. The PC will do the rest, adding it to your drive as a jpeg file instead of a tiff file. Then you can post that as you wish.

Thanks Ron, that sounds simple enough I will 'give it a whirl'.

Regards Jim

PS: I have just tried to do it following the instructions but I'm afraid without any luck.
(I must be doing something wrong ?)
