Can anyone give me any information regarding an engine room explosion aboard the cargo vessel M.V.Soudan?

I joined the Soudan as a cadet in April 1952 which was after the explosion. But I remember being told by an engineer that pressure built up in the port engine scavange pump caused a failure and that part went into the adjacent refrigeration room and killed an engineer and also caused damage. Please note that this is hearsay and may not be 100% accurate.

I am in contact with Edward (Ted) Pooley who was a Jnr Engineer aboard Soudan at the time of the explosion, which took place in Kobe. The ER Serang was badly burned, Ted dragged him to safety, but sadly he died. Ted was burnt on his back and shoulder and eventually transferred to Arcadia. If you would like more info - I'll get it for you from Ted.
