Changing tacks with Abel Tasman

Member Ngaio 62 would like some information on sailing maneouvres in the 1640'es. Not my time, but I'd hazard the guess that tacking was not possible with the tubs he sailed around in. But I do not the period well. I am posting some pictures on wearing, believing that the last set, from Darcy Lever 1819, showing a ship wearing under two courses may be the most appropriate example for the ships of that period in the sort of sea Ngaio's sketch indicates. Anyone with suggestions are most welcome to step forward. Stein.
