Oil Mast light....

Trondheim, Jan 26 --

Combined chemical and oil tanker XxXxXx (1876 gt, built 1982) grounded on a reef, west of Veddeholmane, near Aalesund, at 0530, today. The vessel had just loaded a cargo of 1,140 tons of herring oil at Vedde herring oil factory. The vessel was refloated at 0930 with tug assistance and towed back to the Vedde factory quay. No oil pollution reported up to now. According to the newspapers the vesselís master has explained that he was busy with turning on the light in the fore mast and when he discovered that the vessel was out of course it was too late to avoid grounding. No alcohol involved, according to the police. --

Perhaps if the master had used alcohol, the lamp it might have lit quicker! (Jester)

Checking that all navigation lights are working is part of the pre sailing checklist which is part of the ISM so its either a non-conformity or a very feeble excuse!!
