I am a historian writing about the merchant marine during WWII. I am using the history of a single US flagged freighter, the S.S. SANTA MARGARITA, as a lens to look at the merchant marine war. Using the documentary record, interviews with crews, passengers and also with people from the same convoys or who were in the same ports, I am writing a "biography" that can work as that lens.
As part of this effort, I am also trying to identify writers and artists who shipped out just before and during the war..and then identifying the ships on which they sailed.
Personally, I work as an educator at a regional public (US) university and am a photographer.
