Tyne Dredgers

I've posted a query in the Family History forum and that's produced some very useful stuff. And I didn't come here first because I thought it might all be a bit ancient for you specialists, but then again, why not?

My Great-Grandfather, on his 1920 British Naturalization certificate is named as 'Master of a Dredger'. He was Johan (John) Thuresson and lived in North Shields on Tyneside.

Do any of you experts have, or know of the existence of, a record of (presumably) TIC dredgers in the post-WW1 era? The alternative apparently is to sift through the old TIC minute books in the Tyne and Wear Archives and I cannot believe that that there's no list anywhere already. Just don't know where to look.

I know you're being helpful, but it really isn't good practice to put your e-mail address in a thread. Better to send a PM (personal message), can't be too careful these days!

I have a book in front of me but it only goes up to 1879. The following dredgers were operating on the Tyne in 1879, No.1 Tyne Dredger, No.2 Newcastle Dredger, No.3 Dredger, No.6 Dredger. The book is "The River Tyne" by James Guthrie, published 1880. I served an apprenticeship on the Tyne in the last 5 years of the 1950's, at that time there were two possibly three bucket dredgers operating, they seemed to be very old, they did not have names, only numbers, T.I.C Dredger No. 1 etc. these dredgers could have been around in the 1920's.
