In 1910 the Royal Canadian Navy was born by Royal Proclamation. Last Saturday I attended the the cerimony at the Seamen's Memorial in Point Pleasant Park commemorating the Battle of the Atlantic which was for many who sailed out of Halifax the last land they would ever see

A Happy Birthday to the Royal Canadian Navy.

We in Cumbria, England, are proud to have some of your sailors interred in our soil.

I visit them every Remembrance Day.........They are also ours now.

My dad was an ERA in "Saguenay" when she lost her bow in 1940. Unfortunately I lost him 29 December 2001. He told me a bit, but was understandably reluctant to talk about it. He was also in "Windflower" when she was cut in two bu a freighter on the Grand Banks 7 Dec. 1941.
