I was releiving Leckie on the Willowbank, joined at Victoria Docks London 7th January 1961 and signed off 31st January 1961. She was built at Sunderland 1960, so quite a new ship at that time, a fine vessel. The skipper was Captain Townsley. Three weeks later I was joining the Riverbank in Singapore and didn't sign off until two years later at Hong Kong February 1963.

Tony,
Are you referring to the Willowbank container vessel?

Yes indeed for all its ways it was the best of the Bank boats at the time, West Indian crew, Jamaican stowaways!! Bill Thompson 'god rest him' was the chief Eng who put his heart and sole into that thing. Un-manned ER at sea but I believe after it was sold it had an explosion which killed 1 person [illicit cargo mixing cocktails --BANG]
