Can anybody recommend a book which shows the flags and funnel colours of merchant ships. The more comprehensive the better.

One book you may want to try is "All About Ships and Shipping" by Edwin P. Harnack, published by Faber & Faber, 1964. It has several pages of company flags and funnels, both British and International.

I found my copy on EBay.

There was a book published in the UK called "Brown's Book Of Flags And Funnels", published about once every twelve years, but a lot of their artwork and colors were sometimes not as accurate as they could be. The very best work in capturing colors and details were the calendars issued by Texaco, a single poster which was mailed out free every year.

I have a few of Browns but I find the reproductions in FLAGS FUNNELS and HULL COLOURS by Colin Stewart (Pub Adlard Coles 1963) is superior. Of course it depends on the period you need ?

I haven't been able to find a copy of the Browns book on eBay or Abe books.
Ideally, I would like a fairly recent book, whihc was comprehensive enough tio go back as far as the early 1900s. I realise this may be a bit of a big ask, with a price to match. But it is an area of my book collection sadly lacking.
I guess alternatively, a book on shipping lines (?) I have a copy of Janes' Merchant ships form about 1998, but I thought there may be something out there at least with colour drawings or photos? Have I found a niche in the market?

A few available on http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Brown%27s+Book+Of+Flags+And+Funnels&x=17&y=22 but I'm not sure if you can order them from NZ?

I have an old Observer Book of Shipping which shows flags and funnels. It was published in the 1960's and I picked up my copy at a local second hand book shop.
