Mersey Compass

I am doing some research into the career of the former Grab Dredger Mersey Compass which belonged to the Mersey Docks & Harbour Company, subsequently bought in 1984 by Van Den Herik, Sliedrecht, Netherlands.
Equasis does not have any record of her despite me inserting her
IMO Number 5233121.
Other records show her as active up to 2007.
Can any of our dredging enthusiasts shed any light if she is still working or not???

Best Regards
Keith

Hi Keith

I was on the Compass around 1979? I believe she was sold to the breakers in Spain? I'll try and find my log with her details in.

All the best

John.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply. I tried emailing the owners in Holland twice but did not get any response. Would be grateful if you can provide any information as to her fate.

Best Regards
Keith

Keith and John - its been a while since this post, but just to let you know, my Dad was electrician on the Compass and I have recently put several 8mm movies of it from the 1970s on You Tube - search for "Eddiescouse". I also found this link: http://www.clydesite.co.uk/clydebuilt/viewship.asp?id=383
Let me know if you are still actively trying to research the ship.
Best regards

Hi Ed,

Just been looking at the movies of the 1970s re Mersey Compass.
Good black and white albeit no sound.
Have you any news of her demise??
John advised she went to Spanish breakers but no more than that.
Would appreciate if you can give us any further info.

Best Regards
Keith

No idea past 1972 I'm afraid! I know there is a model of the Compass in the Merseyside maritime Museum, and I guess there must be a Register which matches up all events on the timeline - not an expert but perhaps someone at the MMM can help.
