Photo albums software

I am currently sorting out my scanned negatives and slides. being in the thousands I want a software photo album where I can sort them into types and companies without recopying.

I currently use Picasa and tried other programs but Picasa is restricted to my needs. does anyone have recommendations as what to use.

I used Picasa,untill I found Copernic and using it, and is most recommended, by others and now by me.
