One of the well known emigrant ships.
Here you see passengers boarding the vessel in Amsterdam , I think it was 1955.

Waterman, Groote Beer and Zuiderkruis were used to transport passengers to Canada and Australia in the 50's.

Hi Jan Hendrik

Do you know if the Zuiderkruis was also used as an immigrant ship to South Africa (Union of South Africa) in the late 1930's?

My father and his family came to South Afrika on a ship with such a name from Holland.

Kind regards

The Zuiderkruis referred to in this thread was built as a US Troopship in 1944, so she cannot have been the ship used by your father.

I see that this is your first posting to the site. May I extend a warm welcome to you. Perhaps some of the members may be able to track down the earlier Zuiderkruis.

Roelof,
Could this have been "Zuiderdijk" or "Zuiderdam" perhaps???
The only passenger/immigrant ship with the name Zuiderkruis which I can find was built as a Victory vessel in 1944 as Fred already mentioned.
Groeten,
Jan
