When WHITEHEAD was disposed of there was a story that she was going to be converted as Pilgrim ship, but the "official" line is that she was sold for scrap and broken up in India.

Can anyone confirm her true fate.

Thanks.

RMAS Whitehead was sold to the INCOM Ship Trading LTD and was broken up at Alang (India) in 1993.
The INCOM Group also purchased the former HMS Endurance the previous year which was sold as a 'runner' (as part of the MOD sales contract) and was to be used as a pilgrim ship. Upon arrival at Karachi this clause was disregarded and the Endurance went to the breakers, this was the scenario which befell the Whitehead too.
