Watched this excellent programme and I think Australia is correct in saying he could have been the nations father!
I liked his idea that when a convicted man was finished his penal time he was then the same class as everyone else. I can also see why people who travelled to Australia as settlers were not keen on this as they seemed to want to "Lord it" over the others.
Amazed that London sent guys out as spys to watch what he was doing and report back, stabbing him in the back really, as it was London who sent him there in the first place. Indeed they claimed his lighthouse was frippery after all it would only stop ships being wrecked.
Would be interested in what our Australian members think.
