Does anybody have further information on the Dutch ship, M/V Alkaid?
I sailed from Rotterdam to Montreal in the summer of 1960 or 1961.
I have three pictures which I could post if I knew the correct place.

PS. I noticed that there are a few ships with that name.
This one was a freighter with 3 holds forward and 2 holds aft.

Ahoy Eric,

Indeed, there a few more with that name, but I think this should be the one you're looking for:
After she grounded in 1964 as Agios Nikolaos III at Sea-Cow Head, demolished at Bilbao in 1965

Ruud,
You hit it! Wow. That's the ship and that's the shipping line. Awesome work, thanks.

Now, I'm two for two. Too bad we couldn't find pictures of the Norwegian, Falster.

Ahoy Eric,

Do you mean the Brostrom 1962 "Falster"?

Ruud,
Not that large.
It was a general cargo ship.
Sailed 1966 from Newport, Wales to Montreal.
I didn't think to take pictures that time.

Gdynia found this for a private message:
Cargo ship Built: 1962 Tonnage: 11 376 gross.
Owner: Angbats A/Bm Ferm, Sweden.

Ruud,
I didn't remember it as big as the picture you sent. It seemed to be a general cargo ship similar to the Alkaid but newer.

Sailing as a Dutch ship, you could have eaten off the deck inside the accommodation. I remember the awesome soups and all manner of cheeses. I ate well on the crossing.
