Has anyone heard of a Hoogli pilot being killed on board a docked ship during 1940-1942? His name was John Norman and he was my wife's uncle. John, who became a pilot on the Hoogli after servicing with the City Line, changed duties with a colleague at the latter's request. When a fire broke out on the ship, John was called out and went on board. An explosion occurred and he was killed. Strangely enough, although still a pilot, he was a captain in the army at the time. I presume the accident happened in Budge Budge where he lived with his wife, Ester and son, Ian.
