Just booked a cruise on the Oriana for March. Its from San Francisco back to Southampton via the Panama Canal.Has anyone been on her lately?.Apparently shes just had a refit in Hamburg, making her an all Adult ship.Pity it couldnt have been done in a British yard, come to think of it,have we got any British shipyards left ?.(Pint)

Good choice she looks like a ship rather than the new
"glass barge " variety, she was good in heavy weather on a trip to the Canaries in December a couple of years ago. I would guess the re-fit would only add to her quality. To built and re fit cruise ships is a specialist thing (the time factor is always the key) the UK has not been involved for a number of years. Cammell Laird were involved a few years ago but lost massive amounts with the cancelled Costa job. They now concentrate RFA work as far as I know.

We recently had dinner bed and breakfast and a show on the Marco Polo while she was berthed at Tilbury landing stage.I felt that i was on a proper ship,we had a two berth cabin with two portholes with the deadlights screwed down, you could hear the gennys going, and a faint smell of diesel,it brought back memories.
