I did a trip with Mike when I was a senior midshipman. I think it was on Menestheus. He had, at the time a 'Charles Dickens' style beard and he astounded everybody by shaving it off one morning. I, for one, didn't recognise him until he spoke.
He had a love of good music which he played on a large Akai reel-to-reel in his cabin. He would invite anybody who was interested in to listen. It was there that I heard Tchaicovsky Symphony 'Pathetique' for the first time.
I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

Sorry to hear about Mike. Sailed with him on the Java run on some A boat when he was C/O a life time ago. Real nice guy.
