Mikhail Lermontov

Local papers here in NZ today published a photograph of the Mikhail Lermontov wreck.

She sunk in Port Gore at the top of the south island on the night of February 16th 1986 after striking a rock or two around Cape Jackson.

The photo was taken by a sonar device and shows the liner laying on her starboard side.

A spooky picture, made even more spooky by reading the account of her sinking (thanks Ruud). A fiasco on board during the incident and a dodgy inquiry afterwards - hardly fair to the dead Engineer!
