As a rigger I worked on Andoni Palm in Tilbury docks at end of her final voyage
for Palm Line. She arrived on 22 October 1976 and following discharge of cargo
we cleaned the holds and landed surplus stores.
She then laid up with a Chief Officer,an engineer and a steward working by.
On 8th November a Greek crew joined her and her name became Mastro Manolis.
On the previous day I boarded the ship and the Chief Officer presented me with
her large Red Ensign which had made a few voyages to West African ports.
I had worked on Andoni Palm on her many visits to Tilbury from her maiden voyage in 1958..From 2000 her Red Ensign has been seen flying above the
Civic Center Gravesend every year on Merchant Navy Day 3rd September.
Andoni Palm was sold for 800,000 dollars and sailed from Tilbury for the last
time on 11th Novenber 1976.
