Bonjour Wee Bobby,
I have a photo of my mother, maiden name Olive Armstrong, dated 23rd.October 1936 on board the Stirling Castle. She was on her way to Cape Town to marry my father who had arrived earlier. I was conceived there in 1939. My mother wanted that I be born in the UK went back in December 1939, unfortunately I don't know the name of the ship. When I was about 6 months old, summer of 1940, we sailed again for the Cape on the Franconia. The convoy was chased by U boats and the Franconia dropped many depth charges. We arrivedly safely reason I'm still here to write !!

Served on Sterling Castle 4 trips in 1958,had great times but was a workhorse like the Winchester Castle also did 5 trips on her, what with all those Beer and Linen carries each Morning, then the Scrubouts then rushing down to get shaved and showered and getting everything ready for the 2 sittings of Fourteen hungry Passengers!
Cricky!! how did we survive! But it was good days and wouldnt have changed a thing!
Also served on the Round Africa runs with the likes of Dunnottar,Warwick,Braemar Oh but for those days again!! Never to be repeated!!
Cheers
