Hi any ex Blue star boys out there?
I was with the blue star line From About 1978=1988. Started off on the Cali Star Then the Ulster star when she done a good run up the Great lakes. Plus a few trips with Lamperts and the ACT7.Still see a few shipmates around the town now and again, would like to know what happened to a few of the lads.
Still shipping out but only dredging now as thre is'nt much choice for us ratings now. Happy hunting Big Trev Jones

Hi Trev
I was on the Ulster Star when she went to the Great Lakes. We got stuck in the ice on the way back and it took us about 5 days to get out with the help of the ice breaker Loius St Laurtant. We had a fire in number 1 hold and the electrical job was too much for our electricians so the electricians on the ice breaker helped out. In the morning they would leave the ship by jacobs ladder and walk across the ice to thir ship!!!

Would this be the same voyage?

Hi Trev

Welcome to SN and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I served on the Hobart Star from 31-10-69 to 28-5-70. Not a very happy ship for me so was not too worried to leave her in Cape Town, of all places.

Kind regards

Hi! Trev
You might have known a mate of mine Grant Mullaney,Mechanic? Unfortunately he passed away 27th July 1995. At 35years old a sad end but he never complained, if only his body had been as strong as his heart he would still be with us.

Hi Trev,
I've been with Blue Star since 1967. I'm sure I've sailed with you but cannot place the when and where. The company is German owned now but still called Blue Star although there are very few of us left who were in the original company.
Anyway, safe sailing.

Blue Star Line was disposed of to P&O Nedlloyd in 1998 & ceased to exist. A bit of 'History' here

G'day Peter. I sailed on the Newcastle Star doing a UK coast run in 67 or 68. Did you ever come across a bosun by the name of Doler, or Doaler? I think he was a Londoner.
