Built in Glasgow in 1886, BALCLUTHA is now preserved in San Francisco where she was photographed in 2002. She also sailed under the names STAR OF ALASKA from 1904 and PACIFIC QUEEN from 1933 becoming BALCLUTHA again in 1978.

First time I sailed into San Francisco was 1960,she was alongside at Fishermans Wharf, her name then was "Balclutha".

She was Balclutha in 1972 when I toured the vessel. I still have the ticket stub.

The Storekeeper/A.B. on "Jeremiah O'Brien" , nick name "TATS" is also an A.B. on the "Balclutha" and is a member on this site but I have forgotten his site name ... hopefully he will see this and give sail enthusiasts some info. I was shocked to learn about the terrible fire on the "Cutty Sark". To best of my knowledge there was no mention of it in the press/TV over here ... so, thanks to shipsnostalgia reporters!
