If you want you will be continue the history of BENWYVIS under Ben Line/BENLAWERS . I supplement it that BENWYVIS become the Italian DA RECCO and on june 4 ,1979 while laid up at La Spezia, was seriously damaged
by a fire that also spread to the Passenger steamship LEONARDO DA VINCI
of the same company ITALIA DI NAVIGAZIONE, moored alongside.DA RECCO
was towed out to sea and then being declared total loss and broken up at
La Spezia.

Although The Benwyvis was a nice vessel, her sister vessel the MV Benalbanach was by far the better looking of the two, especially the wooded paint work right up to the passengers deck. Ben Lines BENWYVIS (66/11959) in the King George V lock in the late 1960's.

I remember (I think???) see-ing the "Wyvis in Grangemouth?????? '60?The Ben Wyvis pictured is the Ben Wyvis (4) Built 1966.

Bobbie, the Ben Wyvis that you saw in 1960 would have been Ben Wyvis (3) Built in 1945 and sold to Panama in 1963 and renamed Southern Comfort.

Hugh - I just came across your post and thought you might be interested in what I have found in Lloyd's.
Ben Wyvis, built in 1945 as Empire Byng at Greenock, was renamed Peter Dal II in 1951, then became the Ben Wyvis in 1955 until, as you rightly point out she was sold to the Bacong Shipping Co. Panama and renamed Southern Comet (not Southern Comfort, you might be thinking of the drink?). She was sold again in 1968 and renamed Marites (Peoples Bank and Trust Co. Panama) and finally broken up in March 1972 in Hong Kong.

A busy career.
