Hi
Just a bit of useless infomation.
On some threads, they are saying about American Aircraft Carriers being named after living persons. The next class (CVN 78) is to called the Gerald Ford, another ex President. I believe he is still alive and well, don't recall hearing of his death.
Regards
Karl

Still alive - the oldest living former President. Born July 14, 1913 Omaha, Nebraska, and followed Nixon in to office, serving as President 9 Aug 74 to 20 Jan 77. A seafarer as well - he served on USS Monterey (an Aircraft Carrier) in the Pacific during WW2, leaving the Navy in Feb 46 as Lt Cmdr. Remained a Reservist until June 63.

They also named a carrier after Ronald Reagan while he was alive I believe, and last week they launched one in Newport News after Bush, supposed to be very big ship.

Gerald Ford - Was he the only US President never to have been elected? (Spiro T Agnew was the elected vice president - Now there's a name for a ship).

Actually, the CVN 78, or CVX class, is going to be very similar to a Nimitz class carrier in its external appearance and dimensions. The big difference will be in the magnetic drive catapults, a totally flexible interior layout with the equivalent of raised computer floors for ease in relocating equipment/functions, and a great deal more automation to reduce crew size by around 20%.

Sadly Gerald Ford has now passed on.

Ronald Reagan had a carrier named after him when he was still alive. He died just before it commissioned. Gerald Ford has had a carrier named when he was still alive. There are now only 3 ex President in the U.S., one of whom also has a carrier named after him - Goerge W. H. Bush. Wonder if he is worried.
Having said that, Carl Vinson, a senator has had a carrier named after him and he is still around.
