It's come to light this week that the former AUSTRALIAN VENTURE - now named MSC NURIA - has been sold for demolition in India. She is due to arrive Alang in the next week or so.

"Australian Venture" was my last ship (1992). Some would say she was ready for the scrapyard then. The Chief Engineer told me he always breathed a sigh of relief when we rounded Cape Horn and were abeam of Rio - somewhere to go if she conked out completely!
Having said that, I had a pretty good round-the-world Swansong - lots of laughs and a last bash at a few old haunts. Sorry to hear she's going.

The "Venture" was built in 1977 and although I never sailed on her, my memery was that she was ready for scrapping about 1978!

I do not think there will be many engineers that were saddened to hear of her belated trip to the scrapyards. All of that class were an engineers nightmare.
