PORTO ALEGRE was built as BABITONGA then VERMELHA and PORTO ALEGRE
and then i think was scrapped end 80s.as GIORGIS.
Very good ships SD 14 -FREEDOM and FORTUNE type !!!

SD14s were good ships.It is very unfortunate how cargo handling methods caught up with them fairly rapidly and so many of them are now scrapped.They did not seem to get the chance that Libertys and Victorys got-then again there was not a war just finished and fleets requiring to be built up I suppose.

Anyone remember the Llantrisant from Evan Thomas Radcliffe of Cardiff.
I was on her on 1966 as A/B chartered to M&M of M****illes. 36 port Medi, Arabia , Pakistan, India & Burma. Chatty but Happy.

Sailed on the Porto Alegre as 3/A/E, had my ex wife with me. We went to Brazil. Talk about taking tea to China.
