Anson became TS Graham but that shut in the late 90s and reopened in 2001 as TS Galatea, which is still going strong.

I am the chair of the unit management committee so i said I would put out a shout to see if there is anyone out there. It will be our 10th birthday in this incarnation but we are fairly sure there were units here before the war.

Does anyone have any memories or memorabilia, photos etc?

thanks

American flag shipping reached a very low point by 1914, when war broke out in Europe. The withdrawal of foreign flag ships caused American export cargoes to pile up in the US ports with fewer ships available to ship cargo overseas. Congress enacted emergency
legislation under the U.S. flag for operation in the foreign trade. Two years later, Congress passed the Shipping Act of 1916. Its principle provisions included: Establishment of a five-member shipping commission; acquisition of ships by purchase, lease, charter, or construction for commercial operation; no ship could be bought or chartered from any nation at war; liner or
conference agreements were authorized, but unfair discrimination practices were prohibited; rates had to be published and made available to shippers; and instructions concerning the sale or disposal of ships to U.S. citizens.
