Hi Jim, in answer to your query. A reply from Mr John Fisher, local canal expert ...."yes, that was the original entrance,...and it would have ceased to be used as a Lock around 1933...when the New Lock was built....the same applies to Crinan Sea Lock. The one at Ardrishaig was used a a Dry Dock for repairing boats, or painting keels,..etc....I suspect the reason for the two new Locks(1, and 15 ), was to take longer vessels."
