Taff, just a quick catch up, I have been going through my files going back 16 years and have found many a tale that suits Tusitala but my problem is that I have a new laptop that contains all my personal files from way back but these were created on windows 7 whereas my new machine is windows 10. No problems , you will soon adapt , they say , but when I ask it how to find the clip board for holding a file for transfer to my post it tells me it doesn't have a clip board and launches into an instruction way over my head . The screen looks more like a 747 cockpit than my old tiger moth
Never mind , perseverance , and a pretty tutor should help.
Meanwhile I started the "tales from the war " thread via my ipad to flush out the fringe members that would have to be into their eighties to remember much, although someone has said that he remembers being tipped out of his pram at eighteen months, and this bunch of boys will be thinning faster than we think.
    Out of space
    Regards Bob

Taff, thanks for your 2 msgs. The ancestry info I already knew as you surmised. The other site was simply a rehash of the 1881 census, only showing ships' names and those on board. However, thanks for your thoughts about what sort of vessel the "Forerunner" was. I'm sure you're right. I haven't been able to find any way of finding out for sure, but I'm not losing sleep about it. Mike

Hello Tsell. Thanks for your comment. I sailed from 1966 to 1966 then did a few temporary stints - ship delivery, support tugs during Cod Wars and dredgers- during the seventies. I wrote Chasing the Tide to share the seafaring experience (good, bad and indifferent) with others. I also wanted to share the struggle involved in swallowing the old hook, and that there can be a fulfilling life after the sea. Hope you enjoy Chasing the Tide and make contact any time.

young boy started work at a funeral home. after 3 weeks he couldnt stop moaning that all he was doing was sandpapering coffins and wanted to do some real undertaking work. The boss sent him to a house a couple of streets away to lay one out. he returned a few moments later to say he couldnt do it as the man had a huge errection and no way could he put a lid on the coffin. the boss took him to the house and grabbed a broom on the way in. he took a mighty swipe at it and the body sat up yelling blue murder. the said "what do we do now" his boss reploed "run like hell we are in the wrong house"
