Hi Hugh, Just checking to see if you are still involved with the HMS Glenearn posts. I never got a chance to thank you for putting me in touch with Janette. The book "in time of war" was excellent. Personal cir***stance stopped me researching Glenearn and my Fathers link for many years but I am back to it now and intend to post information on the site again soon. Once again THANK YOU and hope to communicate more. Best regards, John

Hanney-as C/O of the Glenorchy-had the extra-ordinary experience of standing by his sinking ship, in a lifeboat, trying desperately to persuade Captain Leslie to abandon ship-he failed!

I knew several who sailed in that convoy and sailed with one when he was a Glen Line master. Captain Hanney . who was C/O in the Glenorchy- which was sunk: he never spoke of it and it was many years before I learned of the story,

Hi Hugh, I have recently come across the sterling work you did in getting a DVD to an old WW2 Port Chalmers crewman 3 years ago, and wanted to say a direct 'thank you' to you for such a human act. I have just posted an addition to the original thread and a link to a photograph,
    Have a very good weekend,
    Best regards
    Steve
