    Can anyone remember the size of GM they on any vessels along with the type of the vessel, size and condition ie loaded, ballast or part load etc

    I’m after some information .........
    Can anyone remember what the value of the GM was on any vessels you sailed on ......... if you can can you also recall the approx size of the vessel and the condition she was in ie Ballast or Loaded ?

    I would like to ask a question regarding the recovery of twin fall lifeboats on merchant ships.

    I seem to remember whenever we recovered lifeboats after drill or exercise / excursion (usually on Kiwi Coast) when the boat was recovered and the gripes were tightened we used to “lower” the brake to take the weight off the fall wires and transfer the weight onto the gripes.

    I also seem remember changing fall wires with the weight of the boat being taken by the gripes and marrying the end of the new fall to the old fall.

    Do I remember correctly and if so was this standard practise on all vessels ?
